Black Dice: aaron, bjorn, eric.
Recording information: Rare Book Room, Brooklyn, New York (2005).
Avant-noise ensemble Black Dice are part of the roster at Brooklyn's much-heralded DFA Records. While the band has traces of the beat-oriented savvy and electro-experimentation associated with the label, they sound equally influenced by Karlheinz Stockhausen, Throbbing Gristle, and the Boredoms. The appropriately titled BROKEN EAR RECORD, Black Dice's third full-length, mixes squelchy electronics, treated guitar, drum machines, wavering synths, and vocal snippets, into an abstract, bracing sound-storm that proves to be one of the band's most absorbing listens.
The Wire (p.51) - "[The album] powers forth some exhilarating bursts of acrid noise that should satisfy most Black Dice followers as well as intrigue new listeners..."
